Praxair, Inc.
A maker of industrial gases like oxygen, nitrogen, argon and carbon dioxide, supplying everything from medical oxygen and food freezing to metalworking and electronics. It began in 1907 as the Linde Air Products Company, became part of Union Carbide, and was spun off as an independent firm in 1992, renamed Praxair in 1995. The name blends "praxis," the Greek word for practical application, with "air." In 2018 it merged with Germany's Linde AG to form Linde plc, one of the world's largest gas companies.
