Range Resources Corporation
A Texas-based independent energy company that explores for and produces natural gas, natural gas liquids, and oil, mainly from the Marcellus Shale in the Appalachian Basin of Pennsylvania. Founded in 1976 as Lomak Petroleum, it took its current name after merging with Domain Energy in 1998. In 2004, its geologist Bill Zagorski re-entered an abandoned well called Renz #1 and unlocked the Marcellus formation, helping spark the modern shale boom.
