Rhino Resource Partners LP

A coal-mining company based in Lexington, Kentucky, that dug both underground and surface mines across Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, and Utah. It produced steam coal for electric utilities and metallurgical coal for steelmakers. Founded in 2003 by the investment firm Wexford Capital as CAM Holdings, it grew out of an earlier company called Rhino Energy — a name likely chosen to suggest toughness and strength, though the company never explained it. A rhino can weigh several tons, which seems fitting for a firm hauling heavy loads out of the earth.
