Armour Residential Reit, Inc.
A real estate investment trust focused on the U.S. residential mortgage market, ARMOUR buys pools of home loans backed by government-backed agencies like Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Ginnie Mae rather than owning buildings or lending directly to borrowers. Founded in 2008 and based in Vero Beach, Florida, it earns income from the spread between the interest those loan pools pay and the cost of financing them. In 2016 it absorbed its "sister" firm Javelin Mortgage, which shared the same managers — and its name plays on the idea of providing financial "armor" or protection.
