Svb Financial Group
A bank built for the innovation economy, SVB Financial Group was the parent of Silicon Valley Bank, which served startups, venture capital firms, and life-science companies with commercial and private banking. It was founded in 1983 in San Jose, California, after the idea was reportedly conceived by two founders over a game of poker. At its peak it was the go-to bank for nearly half of all U.S. venture-backed tech and life-science companies, until California regulators closed it in March 2023 in one of the largest bank failures in American history.
