A Canadian maker of wireless gear that connects everyday devices to cellular networks, Sierra Wireless builds the embedded modules, rugged routers, and gateways used in industrial machines, vehicles, and medical equipment. Founded in 1993 in Richmond, British Columbia, it got its name from the PMC-Sierra offices where its founders set up shop, and it became famous for the AirCard, the PC-card modem that let business laptops get online before Wi-Fi was everywhere. In 2023 it was acquired by Semtech Corporation.
