Six Flags Entertainment Corporation
A theme park operator whose first park, Six Flags Over Texas, opened in Arlington in 1961 after founder Angus Wynne Jr. visited Disneyland. The name honors the six nations that once held sovereignty over Texas—Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the Confederacy, and the United States. The park was meant as a temporary placeholder for an industrial complex, but its success kept it open, and a 2024 merger with Cedar Fair made the company one of the world's largest amusement park operators.
