Sonic Corp.
A drive-in fast-food chain that serves burgers, hot dogs, tots, and famous customizable drinks like the Cherry Limeade from its car-side stalls. It began in 1953 when Troy Smith bought a root beer stand called the Top Hat in Shawnee, Oklahoma, added an intercom ordering system, and renamed it Sonic in 1959 for "Service at the Speed of Sound." Carhops still deliver food on roller skates at its thousands of drive-ins across the US.
