Stancorp Financial Group Inc
A Portland, Oregon insurance and financial services company that sells group disability, life, dental and vision coverage to businesses, plus retirement plans and annuities, under the brand name The Standard. It began in 1906 as Oregon Life Insurance Company, founded by German immigrant and magazine publisher Leo Samuel, and renamed itself Standard Insurance Company in 1946 as it expanded beyond Oregon. Its odd corporate name, StanCorp, is simply a blend of "Standard" and "Corporation."
