Steel Excel Inc
A holding company owned by Steel Partners that buys and runs businesses across different fields. Through its subsidiaries it runs youth baseball, softball and soccer programs (Steel Sports) and makes blades for cutting meat, food and wood (Kasco). It didn't start out that way: it was born in 1981 as Adaptec, the computer storage firm famous for its SCSI adapters, and was renamed ADPT, then Steel Excel in 2011 after Steel Partners took an interest. A fun quirk: despite the "Steel" name borrowed from its parent, much of what it runs today has little to do with metal.
