Suncor Energy Inc
A Canadian integrated energy company that mines Alberta's oil sands to produce synthetic crude, refines it into fuels, and sells them through Petro-Canada gas stations. Its roots trace to 1917, when Philadelphia's Sun Oil Company opened a Montreal branch; the Suncor name was coined in 1979 when Sun Oil merged its Canadian operations with Great Canadian Oil Sands, whose 1967 plant was the world's first commercial-scale oil sands operation, famously called "the biggest gamble in history."
