A Swiss watchmaking powerhouse behind dozens of well-known brands, from the plastic Swatch to luxury names like Omega, Longines, Breguet, Blancpain and Tissot. It was born in 1983 when Nicolas Hayek merged two ailing Swiss watchmakers, ASUAG and SSIH, to rescue the industry during the "quartz crisis." The Swatch name is a contraction of "second watch"—the idea being a fun, affordable timepiece to wear alongside your good one.
