Tcf Financial Corporation
A regional bank holding company that offered checking, savings, loans, and leasing to everyday consumers and small businesses, TCF operated a large network of branches and ATMs before being folded into Huntington in 2021. It began in 1923 as the Twin City Building and Loan Association in Minneapolis, and its initials stand for Twin City Federal, a name it carried after gaining a federal charter in 1936. The bank became known for introducing "Totally Free Checking" in 1986 to court everyday customers.
