One of the world's largest asset managers, this company builds mutual funds, ETFs, and investment portfolios used by everyday savers, financial advisors, and institutions around the globe. It began in 1947 when Rupert Johnson Sr. opened a small investment shop in New York, naming it for Benjamin Franklin and his spirit of thrift. In 1992 the firm joined with Templeton, the pioneering global-investment house run by famed bargain hunter John Templeton, and the two founders' names live on in the title today.
