A natural-gas-only utility based in Dallas, Texas, Atmos Energy pipes the fuel to homes and businesses across parts of eight US states, making it one of the nation's largest distributors of its kind. Its roots reach back to 1906 in the Texas Panhandle, when it grew through mergers into the Pioneer Corporation, then became its own company in 1983 as Energas before taking the name Atmos Energy in 1988.
