Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd
A Canadian copper and gold miner, Turquoise Hill Resources was best known for building the Oyu Tolgoi mine in Mongolia's Gobi desert—one of the world's largest copper and gold deposits. The company started life as Ivanhoe Mines, founded by Robert Friedland, before renaming itself in 2012; "Turquoise Hill" is the English translation of the Mongolian "Oyu Tolgoi." Long partnered with Rio Tinto, the company was fully bought out by Rio Tinto in 2022, with Mongolia's government holding a stake in the mine.
