The company was born in 2009, in the wreckage of the 2008 financial crisis, when it merged with a blank-check company called Capitol Acquisition and launched with backing from hedge fund Pine River Capital Management. Its name echoes the small Minnesota town of Two Harbors, though the firm has never confirmed the link.
