A global communications company that beams internet from space, Viasat provides satellite broadband for rural homes, in-flight Wi-Fi for airlines, and secure networking for governments and militaries. Three engineers who had worked together at a San Diego satellite firm founded it in 1986, starting in a spare bedroom.
