A British telecommunications giant, Vodafone provides mobile phone plans, home broadband, and digital TV to consumers and businesses across dozens of countries. It began in the early 1980s as a subsidiary of electronics firm Racal, and in 1991 it was spun off as its own company. The name blends "voice," "data," and "fone" — a stylized spelling of "phone" dreamed up with the ad agency Saatchi & Saatchi.
