A maker of professional software for editing film, television, and music, Avid is best known for its Media Composer video editor and the Pro Tools audio workstation used in studios worldwide. Founded in 1987 by Bill Warner, the company pioneered non-linear digital video editing, moving filmmakers off old analog cutting machines. Its name hints at "audio video integrated," and founder Bill Warner picked "Avid" partly because it contains the letters "vid."
