A maker of packaging materials and machines that keep perishable goods safe, Winpak produces flexible films, bags, pouches, and rigid trays used for food, medical devices, and pharmaceuticals across North America. It was founded in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1975 by the Finnish conglomerate Wihuri Oy, and it began operations in 1977. Though people assume "Winpak" means "Winnipeg packaging," the founders actually wanted to call it Wipak after its European sister firm—but that name was already taken in Canada, so they added "win" instead.
