An implantable device maker that treats bladder and bowel problems, Axonics builds rechargeable "pacemakers for the bladder" — tiny neurostimulators placed under the skin that send gentle pulses to sacral nerves, helping people with overactive bladder, fecal incontinence, and urinary retention. Founded in 2012 (originally as American Restorative Medicine) to challenge the only rival device on the market, its name comes from "axon," the nerve fiber that carries electrical signals. Boston Scientific acquired the company in 2024.
