A maker of custom parts on demand, Xometry runs an online marketplace where engineers upload 3D CAD files and get instant quotes for CNC machining, 3D printing, sheet metal, and injection molding, then a network of vetted factories fills the order. Founded in 2013 by Randy Altschuler and Laurence Zuriff as NextLine Manufacturing, it rebranded to Xometry in 2015 — a mashup of "geometry" and the techy "X" — and later bought Thomas, the company behind the industrial directory Thomasnet. Its AI quoting engine analyzes a part's geometry against millions of data points to price it in seconds.
