Ziopharm Oncology Inc (alaunos Therapeutics Inc)

A biotech company that develops cell and gene therapies to treat cancer, focusing on engineered T-cell therapies that enlist a patient's own immune system to fight tumors. It began as Ziopharm Oncology in Boston in the late 1990s and was reborn as Alaunos Therapeutics in 2022 after a restructuring, keeping its hunt for new cancer treatments. Its name comes from the Greek "zoe" for life, and it once partnered with MD Anderson Cancer Center, one of the world's largest cancer hospitals, on early research.
