Orascom Construction Plc
A global engineering and construction contractor that builds large-scale infrastructure, industrial, and commercial projects across the Middle East, Africa, and the United States, including the Grand Egyptian Museum. It traces its roots to 1950, when Egyptian entrepreneur Onsi Sawiris started a contracting firm in Upper Egypt; after it was nationalized in 1961, he returned in 1976 to found the company that became Orascom. The name is a mash-up of 'Onsi' and 'company for construction and commerce.'
