A maker of eyeglasses, sunglasses, contact lenses, and hearing aids, Fielmann is one of the world's largest opticians and the biggest in Europe, with stores across the continent and North America. Trained master optician Günther Fielmann opened his first shop in Cuxhaven, Germany, in 1972, and shook up the staid industry by displaying frames out in the open instead of locked in drawers, letting customers try them on freely. That simple idea helped turn glasses from a medical aid into a fashion accessory.
