A German maker of combi-steamers — kitchen ovens that combine steam and hot-air convection in a single machine, so chefs can roast, bake, and steam without separate appliances. Its SelfCookingCenter and iCombi units are used by restaurants, hotels, and hospital kitchens around the world. Founded in 1973 in Landsberg am Lech by engineer Siegfried Meister, who was frustrated with the clunky cooking equipment of his day, the company launched the first combi-steamer in 1976 and named itself "Rational" in hope of making kitchens more rational and efficient.
