Rheinmetall AG
A German maker of armored vehicles, artillery, ammunition, and air-defense systems, Rheinmetall is one of the world's largest defense suppliers, and it also builds automotive parts for everyday cars under the Pierburg brand. Founded in 1889 in Düsseldorf by engineer Heinrich Ehrhardt, it started making gun barrels and munitions for the German Empire. Its name is a shortening of its original tongue-twister of a title, "Rheinische Metallwaaren- und Maschinenfabrik" (Rhineland Metal Goods and Machine Factory).
