One of the world's largest distributors of chemicals and ingredients, Brenntag supplies everything from industrial solvents to food additives to manufacturers across dozens of countries. It began in Berlin in 1874 as an egg wholesale business founded by merchant Philipp Mühsam, gradually moving into chemicals by the early 1900s. Its name is a tidy German acronym for "fuel, chemicals, and transport corporation," adopted in 1937 after the Stinnes industrial family took it over.
