Scor SE
A French reinsurer — essentially "insurance for insurance companies" — SCOR SE helps primary insurers share the risk of big losses like natural disasters. The French government created it in 1970 so the country would have its own domestic reinsurance capacity rather than relying on London and New York. Its name is an acronym for its original French name, Société Commerciale de Réassurance, and in 2007 it became the first French listed company to adopt the "SE" (Societas Europaea) legal designation.
