A London-based bank serving everyone from everyday savers to giant corporations, Barclays offers current accounts, mortgages, loans, credit cards, wealth management, and investment-banking services across the UK, the US, and beyond. Its roots reach back to 1690, when two Quaker goldsmiths, John Freame and Thomas Gould, began taking deposits on Lombard Street; the "Barclay" name arrived in 1736 with Freame's son-in-law James Barclay. Fun fact: the bank's black spread-eagle logo came from a shop sign the founders chose because they felt the building's old Bible sign was unfit for a banking business.
