Sina Corp
A Chinese technology and media company behind the news portal Sina.com and Weibo, the country's best-known microblogging platform where users post short updates much like Twitter. It was born in 1999 from the merger of Beijing SINA Information Technology and California's SINANET.com, and its Chinese name, Xīnlàng, literally means "New Wave." Weibo, launched in 2009, simply translates to "microblog" — the word became so tied to the platform that Sina later dropped its own name from the brand.
