Sustainable Opportunities Acquisition Corp

A special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), a shell company formed to raise money and merge with a private business to take it public. Incorporated in 2019 and based in Dallas, it was built with an environmental focus, hunting for a target with strong sustainability credentials. It found one in DeepGreen Metals, a developer harvesting battery metals from potato-sized "polymetallic nodules" sitting on the deep seafloor — nodules that grow just millimeters over a million years. After the merger in 2021, the combined firm was renamed The Metals Company.
