Trane Technologies Plc
A maker of heating, cooling, and transport refrigeration, Trane Technologies builds the HVAC systems that keep buildings comfortable and the Thermo King units that keep food and medicine cold in trucks and trains. Its roots reach back to 1885, when Norwegian immigrant James Trane opened a plumbing shop in La Crosse, Wisconsin, that his son Reuben later grew into The Trane Company. A fun bit of history: the company's Thermo King brand is credited with inventing the first refrigerated railroad boxcar back in 1938. The modern firm was shaped in 2020 when Ingersoll-Rand spun off its climate business as Trane Technologies.
