White Mountains Insurance Group, Ltd
A Bermuda-based holding company that owns and invests in insurance, reinsurance, and related financial businesses, including Ark, a Lloyd's of London insurer, and Bamboo, a homeowners-insurance agency. It began in 1980 as the parent of Fireman's Fund, which was sold to Allianz in 1991; the renamed company took its current name in 1999. The name honors the White Mountains of New Hampshire, near the Vermont and New Hampshire towns where its U.S. operations were based.
