Xl Group Ltd
A Bermuda-based insurer and reinsurer that sells commercial insurance to big businesses, covering property, casualty, professional liability, and specialty risks like aerospace, marine, and energy. It was founded in 1986 as EXEL Limited in the Cayman Islands by 68 large US corporations, organized by brokers from Marsh & McLennan after a liability crisis left many firms unable to buy coverage. Its "XL" name grew out of the original EXEL moniker, and in 2018 the company was bought by France's AXA and rebranded AXA XL.
