Star Micronics Co Ltd
A Japanese maker of precision machinery and point-of-sale printers. Star Micronics began in 1947 in Shizuoka as a tiny factory stamping parts for wristwatches and cameras, then started building its own automatic lathes to make those parts better — a sideline that grew into a line of CNC lathes used in machine shops. It later branched into the receipt and label printers (its TSP series) that ring up purchases in shops and restaurants. Its name pairs "Star" with "Micronics" to signal its roots in micro-precision engineering.
