Sumitomo Heavy Industries Ltd
A Japanese maker of heavy machinery and industrial equipment, from Cyclo gear reducers and injection molding machines to ships and cranes. Its roots go back to 1888, when it began as a repair shop for the Besshi Copper Mine, and it took its current shape in 1969 after merging with shipbuilder Uraga Heavy Industries. The Sumitomo name, meaning "living friend," traces to a 17th-century Kyoto book and medicine shop.
