A South Korean carmaker that builds everything from city runabouts and sedans to SUVs, selling the Hyundai, luxury Genesis, and Kia brands to drivers around the world. The company was founded in 1967 by Chung Ju-yung, a farmer's son who had started with a small auto repair shop and later a construction firm. The name "Hyundai" is Korean for "modernity"—a fitting label for a company that grew out of postwar rebuilding into one of the world's largest automakers.
