Sina Corporation
Sina is a Chinese internet and online media company behind the Sina.com.cn news portal and Sina Weibo, a microblogging platform often called "China's Twitter" that launched in 2009. It took shape in 1999 when a Beijing web company merged with the California-based site SINANET.com, and later spun off Weibo into its own company. The name "Sina" comes from "Sina" (Sinae), the Latin name for China — fitting for a firm built around serving Chinese users at home and abroad.
