The story begins in 1860, when Gaspare Campari invented his secret bitters recipe in Novara, Italy, then opened the famous Caffè Campari in Milan's Galleria; his son Davide later grew the café business into the international company that bears his name. A fun twist: the original drink was called "Bitter all'uso d'Olanda" (Dutch-style bitter), and the recipe remains a closely guarded secret even today.
