A maker of generic medicines, Mylan produced affordable alternatives to brand-name drugs for conditions like diabetes, arthritis, depression, and schizophrenia, and sold them to patients and pharmacies around the world. It began in 1961 in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, when army buddies Milan "Mike" Puskar and Don Panoz founded the company—famously selling medicines out of the trunk of a Pontiac Bonneville to rural Appalachian doctors. The two flipped a coin to decide who would name the business and who would be president, and the company name grew out of "Milan."
