Naspers Limited
A South African holding company that invests in and runs consumer internet businesses — online classifieds, food delivery, payments, and e-commerce — and holds a large stake in the Chinese tech giant Tencent. It began in 1915 in Cape Town as De Nasionale Pers, an Afrikaans-language newspaper publisher whose first paper was Die Burger, and shortened its name to Naspers in 1998. In 2001 it put money into a then-obscure Chinese startup called Tencent, which grew into one of the world's most valuable companies.
