United Overseas Bank Ltd
A major Singaporean bank, UOB serves everyday customers and businesses across Southeast Asia with savings accounts, credit cards, loans and wealth services. Born in 1935 as the United Chinese Bank, it was founded by Sarawak-born businessman Wee Kheng Chiang to lend to Hokkien merchants during the Great Depression. It changed its name to United Overseas Bank in 1965 to avoid clashing with a Hong Kong bank of the same name — the year it also opened its first overseas branch there.
