A Swedish clothing retailer that sells affordable fashion, beauty, and homeware for men, women, and children. It began in 1947 when Erling Persson opened a women's-only shop in Västerås called Hennes, Swedish for "Hers." In 1968 he bought Mauritz Widforss, a hunting-and-fishing store, added men's and kids' lines, and renamed the company Hennes & Mauritz — the H&M shoppers know today.
