Emcore Corp
A maker of inertial navigation and sensing gear, EMCORE builds the fiber-optic gyroscopes, ring-laser gyros, and quartz sensors that help military aircraft, guided munitions, and drones find their way even when GPS is unavailable. Founded in 1984 as a pioneer in compound semiconductors and fiber-optic transmission, it grew out of those roots and is now headquartered in Budd Lake, New Jersey. A fun quirk: its name is commonly read as a play on "electronic core," nodding to the semiconductor materials that first built the company.
