One of Austria's largest banking groups, BAWAG Group runs a universal bank serving everyday retail customers, small businesses, and big corporate clients. Its roots go back to 1922, when Austria's first Chancellor Karl Renner founded a Workers' Bank for the labor movement, and to the older Austrian postal savings bank dating to 1882. In 2005 the two institutions merged to form BAWAG P.S.K. — the name stands for Bank für Arbeit und Wirtschaft ("Bank for Labour and Business").
