Italgas Spa
A gas distribution company that runs the pipelines carrying natural gas to homes and businesses across Italy and Greece, making it one of Europe's largest operators in the field. It began in 1837 in Turin as the city's gas-lighting company, the first of its kind in Italy, and later shortened its name from Società Italiana per il Gas to Italgas. The name is a blend of "Italiano" and "gas," and the company's first workshop lit Turin's streets using coal imported from Newcastle.
