Axa SA
A Paris-based insurance and financial services group that protects individuals and businesses through motor, home, life, health and retirement products, and manages savings and investments for clients in dozens of countries. It grew out of a small mutual insurer founded in 1816 in Normandy, then expanded through acquisitions under leader Claude Bébéar. The short, punchy name "AXA" was chosen in 1985 by computer-aided search precisely because it means nothing in any language — a neutral word that sounds the same almost everywhere.
