Snam S.p.a.
Italy's main natural gas infrastructure company, Snam runs the high-pressure pipelines that carry gas across the country, plus storage and regasification facilities. Its name is an acronym for Società Nazionale Metanodotti ("National Methane Pipeline Company"), and it was founded in 1941, during World War II, when the Italian government prioritized building the country's first methane pipelines despite wartime steel shortages.
